French as a Second Language Courses

Registration to Evening and Saturday French Courses

THE STUDENT’S FILE MUST BE COMPLETE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Students must therefore provide all the required documents and pay all tuition fees. Foreign students must also take out health insurance.

Note: You may not take a course at the same level more than twice.

Required Documents

  • Students born in Canada

  • Photocopy of the birth certificate showing the names of the father and mother, and the place of birth.

  • Students born outside Canada who have Canadian immigration documents

    Photocopy of the visa, or the IMM-1000 or IMM-5292 form, or the permanent residence card (both sides), or a Canadian citizenship card (both sides), or a residence permit.

  • Students born outside Canada who do not have Canadian immigration documents

    Photocopy of the passport stamped with the date of entry into Canada or a photocopy of the birth certificate with the family names and given names of the father and mother, and the place of birth.

Payment

Tuition fees and health insurance for foreign students must be paid in Canadian dollars by:

Canadian citizens will receive a tax receipt in February, in the amount of $281.79 for a three-credit course.

The Université de Montréal reserves the right to change the content and cost of these courses without notice.

Canadian Students and Permanent Residents

Students are considered Canadian if they were born in Canada or have a Canadian Citizenship Card. Students are considered permanent residents if they have form IMM-1000, form IMM-5292 or a Permanent Resident Card.

Foreign Students Eligible for the Lump Sum Exemption

Only foreign students who are admitted to a program leading to a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree will be eligible for the lump sum exemption for these courses. Newly admitted foreign students enrolled in programs in French literature and Québec studies are not eligible for the lump sum exemption.

Cancellation of registration

Students who wish to cancel their registration must notify the Language School in writing.

Tuition fees will be refunded only if the Language School receives written notice before the cancellation date, which will be available in the calendar at least a month before courses begin.

The cost of health insurance is refundable only if the student cancels the registration by the prescribed deadlines.

Visa

For courses lasting one session or less, only a visitor’s visa is required. Citizens of some countries do not need a visa. Contact the Canadian consulate or embassy in your country of origin for more information. In addition, verify that your date of entry in Canada has been officially stamped in your passport.

To register for two or more consecutive sessions, foreign students must obtain a Québec Acceptance Certificate and a Student Authorization from the Canadian government. Further information may be obtained by contacting:
